Hypnosis & Hypnotherapy
When we enter hypnosis we are in state of deep relaxation and concentration which is similar to the time just before we drift off to sleep. Our brain switches from its Beta state (our waking state) to an Alpha state where our mind enters a heightened state of awareness. Our conscious analytical mind now takes a back seat leaving our subconscious mind unrestricted allowing the therapist to change your belief system using positively worded suggestions.
Our habits and thoughts which create our belief system which in turn controls our behavior, derive initially from our subconscious mind. Research has identified that over 80% of all our actions come from our subconscious mind's programming.
It is called the subconscious mind as it is deeper than our conscious awareness. We are unaware of the thoughts and feelings that reside here which are more powerful than the thoughts and feelings we deal with at a conscious level. All emotions derive from our unconscious mind (such as happiness, sadness, anger and so on). These emotions are then experienced through our conscious mind as feelings, behaviors or actions.
Hypnotherapy questions and answers
After being hypnotised will I remember anything?
While you are in hypnosis you are aware of everything around you as you are in a heightened state of awareness as your senses become more sensitive and attuned to what's happening around you. As we are all individuals our experience of hypnosis will be different some people have a feeling of weightlessness others may feel heavy though these hypnotic experiences may differ they will always have a feeling of pleasantness and restfulness. These experiences will be remembered once you are brought out of hypnosis and you will be able to explain exactly how you felt.
Can I get stuck in Hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy has been traced back to the ancient Greeks and Egyptians and in the whole history of hypnosis no one has ever found themselves stuck in this state. Even if the Hypnotherapist was to leave you you would naturally come out of hypnosis as you would an afternoon knap remember Hypnosis is a natural process we all experience.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
We all experience hypnosis each and every day its easy to enter hypnosis as it is a natural state of the mind in fact it is so natural most of the time we do not even realise we have entered hypnosis. We have all been reading a book and lost all sense of time or been driving a route we have driven many times but have no recognition of the actual journey once we arrive at our destination. These actions have been performed by our subconscious mind safely and accurately leaving our conscious mind to take a back seat.
Could I loose control?
No it is impossible to loose control of your own actions or carry out any actions against your will while in hypnosis. In fact you will gain control of your anxieties, your moods, and any other negative actions your conscious mind carries out.
Will the session be in complete confidence?
A professional hypnotherapist will adhere to the strict code of confidentiality and ethics of the school of training or the association to whom they belong. Every aspect discussed in the initial consultation and any sessions that may follow will be in the strictest confidence and will not be discussed with any person during or after the therapy has finished without prior consent.
Is there anyone who cannot be hypnotised?
If you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs it would be very difficult to enter a hypnotic state as you are not of sound mind and not able to concentrate on what is being said. Also if you are mentally ill and unable to concentrate or understand what the therapist is saying you are unlikely to be induced into hypnosis.
Who make the best clients?
Some of the best hypnotic clients are people who are very intelligent and those that have an ability to visualise. It has been said that people with a very low IQ would not be able to achieve an hypnotic state however this in my view is more likely to be linked to the ability of concentration that this person is able to maintain. People who come to me wanting to change certain aspects of their life's and have an open mind make the best clients.
Is it possible that childhood memories hold the key to my adult behaviors?
Our subconscious mind is very powerful although we may think our conscious mind is in charge and we decide our actions it is actually our subconscious mind that is in control. As a child our subconscious mind places restrictions and locks away traumatic events as it acts as a protection mechanism. These restrictions are still in place in our adult life's and form our belief systems thus ruling our decision making in situations where these childhood restrictions are no long relevant. Hypnotherapy releases these childhood emotions relieving your of the restrictions they once imposed.
